This week, we've been treated to an unexpected snowfall of 10-15cm in just a couple of hours, turning Annecy into a winter wonderland. According to local newspaper Le Dauphine, this is a rare occurrence as it's been two decades since the last time Annecy had such a substantial amount of snow.

I feel it almost took everyone by surprise, even the council appeared to be a bit slow on clearing the roads and pavements. It certainly slowed the traffic down!

Snow covered trees and pavement on the shore of lake Annecy.

I love it when it snows because everything seems quieter. I love the complete and uncompromising whiteness of it all and the fact that snowmen of various shapes and sizes appear as if from nowhere.

A small snowman on top of a fence with red berries for eyes, twigs for arms, a smiley mouth and buttons. The head is covered with dried out berries.

Besides the wonderful visual feast that this snow gave us, it also reminded me of the spontaneity, power and beauty of nature. It's just a shame it only lasted a couple of days.

À bientôt....
